June 2025
From the Principal
Happy Monday, everyone! It is hard to believe that the 24-25 school year is behind us! There were so many wonderful things that happened this year at the CEC & ATC. We are all very grateful to be able to work with your children and guide them on their life's journey. This year, we bid goodbye to Madison and Chris at graduation. We wish them the best with whatever comes their way.
We also say goodbye to two COOR ISD staff members, Teresa Gertiser & Brenda Vaughan-Ide. Teresa served multiple roles throughout her time with the ISD and was most recently our school nurse. Brenda wore many hats as well, serving as our Transition Coordinator and Compliance Monitor. We are going to miss them both dearly and wish them all the best in retirement!
With the retirement of Teresa, we would like to welcome Emily Quinlan to our team as the new school nurse. She will be with us on a full-time basis.
Finally, we have started a building renovation project at the CEC. The former ROOC workshop will be transformed into two new classrooms for our SCI program and will include sensory rooms, ADA-compliant bathrooms, and an ADA-compliant daily living skill room. The project is slated to be completed over the summer. We are excited to see the finished product!
I truly hope you all have a restful summer and we are excited to see your students once school resumes in September!
I always look forward to hearing from our families! If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, I can be reached via phone (989) 275-9583 or email [email protected].

Ms. Cheri (Intermediate MoCI)
Ms H's class has been working on independent thinking skills using hands-on activities and science experiments. This fosters deeper understanding, engagement, and skill development. As a class we hope to create lasting memories, knowledge retention, that can connect to real-world situations.
Ms. Pat (Elementary MoCI)
Ms. Hannah (Secondary SCI/SXI)
Over the course of the school year, Ms. Hannah and her team did many wonderful daily living skill activities with her students, such as cooking. Cooking helps students focus on following directions, fine motor skills, and builds confidence. We are all excited to see our new classroom space and daily living skills areas once the renovation project is complete!
Ms. Tracy (Intermediate SCI/SXI)
With the beautiful weather, we’ve been spending more time outside—exploring, creating, and learning in nature. We’re also excited to share that several students are communicating more effectively using new assistive devices, allowing them to better express themselves and connect with others.
It’s been a meaningful and inspiring month of growth, expression, and environmental awareness!
Ms. Emily (Primary MoCI)
After 8 months of work we finished our Animal Alphabet book. For each letter of the alphabet, students were presented with five animals. Students and staff voted on their two favorite animals to learn more about. After learning more about each animal and answering fact-based questions, students then voted for which animal would represent each letter in the book. Students then created dozens of artworks of the 26 animals that were chosen for the book.
I am so proud of the year’s worth of work that your students put into this book!!
Ms. Shannon (Secondary MoCI)
The students and staff all had a wonderful year! We look forward to seeing everyone again in the Fall!
Ms. Angie (ATC Work-Based Learning Program)
It was a busy year at the ATC! The students all worked very hard both in the classroom and on their job sites. We are sad to see our friend Chris go, but could not be more happy for him!
We hope everyone has a great summer and will see you again in the Fall!
